The Climate in Umbria
The characteristics of the Umbria climate are those typical of the internal
regions of the peninsular: the mediteranean climate is mildly present
due to the fact the region is not near the sea. The Appenine Mountains
are a barrier against the influences of the Adriatic, it isn’t
easy for the cold air from the northeast to pass, with consequences
also for the distribution of rainfall, that in general diminishes in
          the direction East – West.
In the major part of the region the temperature rarely reaches very
low temeperatures, which can be seen in the typical mediteranean vegetation
with the presence of species of Olive treeswhich do not tollerate intense,
long cold spells. The annual rainfall is around 800 to 1200 mm, it grows
with altitude by the number of days and amount and is concentrated more
or less in autumn-winter, the month with less rain is July; therefore
there are long hot and dry periods, from July to September.
